Morales: Missa Ave Maria | Missa Si bona suscepimus
Magnificat tertii toni

De Profundis |  Eamonn Dougan

CORO is delighted to welcome De Profundis to the label in its landmark project exploring the complete Masses and Magnificats of Spanish Renaissance master Cristóbal de Morales.

Album Description

Continuing its acclaimed series, De Profundis presents Morales’ Missa Ave Maria, Missa Si bona suscepimus, and the Magnificat tertii toni. Morales wrote music of sublime nobility and powerful expression with flowing melodic lines, transparent yet intricate polyphony and expressive harmonic colour. Regarded as a master by his contemporaries and described as “the light of Spain in music”, Morales was the first Spanish composer to achieve truly international fame and helped establish Spain as a major centre of sacred polyphonic music in the 16th century.
